Nepal’s Prime Minister, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, and the Transport Minister, Raghubir Mahaseth, got a special welcome with a red carpet and sofas inside a big tunnel. This tunnel is a big deal because it’s going to make traveling much faster.
The main part of the tunnel is about 2.7 km long, and there’s another part, called the emergency tunnel, that’s about 2.6 km long. The emergency tunnel was finished first, on August 7, 2023. It has doors that connect to the main tunnel, so if something goes wrong, people can be rescued quickly.
The tunnel was made by a company from Japan called Ando Corporation. Now that the main part is done, they’ll add lights, air, and make the road smooth. Cars will be able to drive through it in about a year.
